Summary:

Happy Halloween and Happy Fall to the northerners or Spring to the southerners! After evacuating and then returning to our barrier island home in southwest Florida last month for Hurricane Ian, we realized the fickle nature of well, Nature. Grateful as we are for relatively minimal tree damage we sustained, our neighbors to the south weren’t so lucky. We wish everyone a speedy recovery.

We recently came back from a chilly Philadelphia and CitiesAlive refreshed from seeing far-flung colleagues, friends, and exhibitors – plus learning about what Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and the Green Infrastructure Foundation has been doing in pandemic mode. Their 3-Point Green Infrastructure Solutions Plan says to Save, Restore, and Invest. Didn’t attend? Catch up on all the happenings in Linda’s “A Worthy Long Awaited Reunion.”

As we enter November, many events will be covering green living architecture, from Greenbuild and ASLA in San Francisco to FutureScape and London Build in the UK to COP27 in Egypt. Celebrating its 30th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi says, “I deeply believe that COP27 is an opportunity to showcase unity against an existential threat that we can only overcome through concerted action and effective implementation.”

With the midterm elections coming up here in the US, how about we vote to support climate change by selecting those who actually believe in the science AND are willing to do the work to stop it?
