Greenroofs.com Virtual Summit 2017 Round #2 Call Short Videos

Call for Short Videos for Round #2 of Greenroofs.com’s 2017 Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Virtual Summit: Connecting the Planet + Living Architecture!

Do you have or would you like to create an original, under 10-minute video (NOT overtly self-promotional) about: a project you’re working on (or a recently completed one), a short tour you just did, a revolutionary idea, or simply commentary?

Who?

If you’d like to share your experience with our green infrastructure community, the Call for Short Videos is for you!  And as an attendee, you’ll also be supporting our work.

Because the internet is open to the world (in theory, of course), with the Virtual Summits people from across the globe can not only watch expert subject matter videos, but have everyone watch theirs, too.

What?

Most noteworthy, we’ll be featuring new under 10 minute videos from our 2017 Virtual Summit attendees – along with our stellar cast of Keynotes and Speaker videos from Round #1.

Where?

Greenroofs.com Virtual Summit 2017 Round #2 Call Short Videos

Completely held online at virtual.greenroofs.com.

When?

September 29, 2017:  Deadline for sending in the short videos.

October 16:  Virtual Summit 2017 Round #2 will be open, and like Round #1 will run through the end of the year.

Mid-November:  New global social media events start, and once again will be Free and Open to Everyone!

Why a Round #2?

First of all, the potential for readership/audience engagement in our online Virtual Summits is huge – endless, really.  And, participating in the Virtual Summit 2017 is a smart way to promote yourself:

Get your bio included on the Speakers page along with your short video on the Agenda.

How?

Send us a current video (within one year or so) or get out your cameras or smart phones and film!  To participate you must be a registered attendee – if you’re not yet, we’re offering special discounted pricing of half off the regular price of $49 to get your cameras rolling:

Discounted Registration Fee: $25

Internet Trends

People still enjoy watching the longer videos from their favorite speakers and attention-grabbing or important subjects.  Yet, due to the trend towards shorter videos – anywhere from 1 to 5, perhaps up to 10 minutes long, this is your chance to get noticed.

We have an opportunity to attract more viewers to the Virtual Summit 2017 and You can receive name recognition since Millennials and Baby Boomers alike are responding to quicker messages and visuals.

Most of all, people use Social Media for networking!  Our Virtual Summits are not only to share information and inspire others, but a tool to engage fellow living architecture colleagues.  Stay tuned for more live events in November.

Subject Examples to Share:

  • You or your firm/organization is working on (or finished) a really cool project that you have short film of – or create a new one (cannot be product-oriented, it would need to be project-oriented) – it’s fine to be a little self-promotional!
  • You’re fascinated with a particular plant or plant community for living roofs or walls.
  • You’ve always wanted to interview that special someone.
  • Your own related conference/workshop/seminar is coming up – tell us about it.
  • You have a new book coming out (yes, a little commercial, but informational as well).
  • Within the not-so-distant past you went on a fantastic greenroof or wall tour and want to share your footage.
  • As a researcher or student you may have recently spent a lot time (and money) creating a poster board for a conference or class – share it with like-minded people.
  • Professors and teachers: you could get your entire class to create a video of snippets from each student.
  • You have an idea for the public good or our planet as a whole.
  • You’re working on a new product that could revolutionize the industry.*

*Too self-promotional?

All attendees can create and share their under 10-minute videos, subject to appropriate matter to be determined by Greenroofs.com.

NOTE:  The Round #2 videos are not meant to be overtly commercial (no product endorsements, please) – if this is the case, you may want to consider exhibiting at the Expo at a very low cost: $400 for Greenroofs.com advertisers/$500 for non-advertisers.

Video Specifics:

  • Must be a completed video under 10 minutes in any film format.
  • After registering, send us: your photo, 2-3 line bio including any of your social media links you’d like to add to your profile, video title and short description, and a photo/screenshot of your video to: linda@greenroofs.com.
  • How to send us your finished video:

1. Share or Transfer your files via any of the available tools online (i.e. Dropbox, Hightail, WeTransfer, etc.) that you are currently using.

2. Use this link to upload your files to us: https://www.dropbox.com/request/EhU2RqJptdp4L4zupao6

Project of the Week for August 28, 2017: Independence Blue Cross Living Wall

Project of the Week Mini Description & Details

Philadelphia’s 1901 Market Street, corporate headquarters for Independence Blue Cross (IBC), underwent a 5-year, complete building modernization with sustainability in mind from Meyer Architects. This included the overhaul of the Market Street frontage expansion at the ground floor. Aside from the site’s interior renovations, IBC also gave its outdoor plaza space a ‘green face-lift.’ The previous space was segmented and masked, plants had outgrown their space, and the plaza terminated at a tiered concrete wall of weeds that loomed over seating areas. This renovation was awarded with two TOBY (The Outstanding Building of the Year) Awards from BOMA Philadelphia (Building Owners and Managers Association), and nothing more visually states a company’s green branding than installing two exterior 18 feet tall living walls!

Greenroofs.com Project Week August 28 Independence Blue Cross Living Wall

Greenroofs.com Project Week August 28 Independence Blue Cross Living Wall

Designed by manufacturer and grower Plant Connection, a curvilinear design of overlapping arcs freely flows through both walls. Since the plaza is surrounded by tall buildings that cast shadows and bounce light, a planting palette suitable for shade was chosen with seasonal interest. The two G-O2 Living Walls span a total of 32 feet and provide a splendid visual contrast to the richly colored Trespa panel accent wall that surrounds it.

New paving, complete with IBC’s inlaid logo medallion and recessed LED lighting, runs throughout and visually connects the buildings overlooking the space. Serpentine tiered seating extends from the wall and allows visitors to appreciate the living wall plantings up close and the green walls are segmented by recessed LED lighting that aligns with other design elements. IBC added life and beauty to its outdoor plaza which provides a visual statement of the company’s commitment to sustainability. Now, 1901 Market Street is wide open with welcoming views to its lush living walls. Building occupants have verdant views to the living walls below, and plaza visitors can take a refreshing break outside in an inviting space.

Created to reinvigorate a 25-acre tract of land in Chicago’s Grant Park, Millennium Park is a multi-award winning public park with venues for performance, art, sculpture, architecture and landscape architecture, located between Chicago’s lakefront and the central business district (the loop). Greenroofs.com Project Week August 14 2017 Millennium Park Chicago

When Millennium Park opened on July 16, 2004, it transformed an industrial wasteland into Chicago’s cutting-edge showplace – the centerpiece is the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, a bandshell designed by Frank Gehry. Today, it is Chicago’s second-largest tourist attraction – and the City marked its 10th anniversary throughout the summer of 2014. The Millennium Park 10th Anniversary Summer Celebration featured dozens of free events and exhibitions including new monumental sculptures by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, designer of Crown Fountain; indie rock, electronica, jazz, classical and world music; films, simulcasts and documentaries shown on an outdoor, 40-foot LED screen; family activities; workouts and more. Due to the size, scope, and multi-phase approach, several companies provided waterproofing, including: Barrett CompanyAmerican Hydrotech, Tremco, and Henry.

Project Week July 31 2017 Macy's Corporate Headquarters Habitat Roof

Project of the Week Mini Description & Details

The U.S.’s largest department store retailer, Macy’s was established in 1858 and is renowned for its annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, held in New York City since 1924. Macy’s Corporate Headquarters sits in the heart of downtown Cincinnati’s urban core and the company strives for green department stores across the nation with sustainable renovations which are built to consume less energy whenever possible. When part of corporate headquarters needed renovation, an environmentally friendly option only made sense – the new Macy’s Habitat Green Roof is located on the 8th floor patio outside of the cafeteria. The American Hydrotech assembly will be used by its employees including the 1,000 sf “Go Green” garden where associates will plant vegetables and herbs which the chef will use in the cafeteria.

Project Week July 31 2017 Macy's Corporate Headquarters Habitat Roof

Designed by Rose Seeger of Green City Resources, specific selection of plant material for butterflies and pollinators was carefully planned along with seasonal progression of bloom to ensure there would be nectar and habitat all season. Many drought tolerant and native varieties were used to provide some type of seed, nectar, or cover for birds, bees and butterflies. Three large bubble boulders provide a water source for the habitat, also enjoyed by employees. Since Ohio is on the Monarch migration route, the Habitat Roof is a registered Monarch Waystation, providing nectar for adults and host plants for larvae. The green roof is also a registered Wildlife Habitat; pipes, logs, rocks and a mason bee house provide cover and encourage nesting of urban wildlife. A Cooper’s Hawk trapped in the parking garage was released onto the roof, and has been sighted back on occasion. The Macy’s Corporate Headquarters Habitat Roof is the first of its kind in downtown Cincinnati and Macy’s hopes to encourage more businesses and their employees to make small oases of habitat.
