I always have a great time choosing amazing, important projects and looking at the popular trends. Of course, selecting the #1 category is even more special!
We inaugurated the “Top 10 Hot List” in 2007, and 2018 is packed with some very cool, awesome, and stunning projects located across six continents.
I presented my fast-paced and always fun whirlwind tour across the world of living architecture in New York in September at the 2018 CitiesAlive conference. In order to try and keep to my 30-minute maximum presentation time, I removed several projects and slides, but I have shown them all here in this series.

Greenhost Boutique Hotel
We’d love to visit this very green hotel! A colleague of Virginia Russell had sent her photos of the Greenhost Boutique Hotel and she passed them on to me ~ and what a wonderful and worthy Top 10 project!
Optima Camelview Village
What a gorgeously green and sustainable residence – both the designers and condo owners should be extremely proud of this development just dripping in vegetation!
Chicland Hotel
This narrow Tower of Hanging Gardens boasts greenery both inside and out, and succinctly takes advantage of its local bioclimatic setting!
Southbank by Beulah
Kudos for the sensitive design of this fantastic ‘green spine’ that twists verdantly around its vegetated network of public and private spaces!
Liuzhou Forest City
Gifted Italian architect Stefano Boeri has done it again, except this Bosco Verticale is a stunning vertical urban forested city rather than “just” a forest! I can’t wait to see it constructed.
