4,704 sf. Greenroof

Project Description & Details

Designed by Rojkind Architects and AGENT Collaborative Architectural Design, the Transformadora Ciel project is a three-level corporate greenroof which resulted from the restoration of a rooftop heliport that was no longer in use. Zona Verde MX used more than 8,900 sq. ft. of a 100% PET recycled geotextile in the various areas which translates to more than 20,102 recycled bottles of PET in the whole system. Annual savings estimates include 4.872 liters of water harvested; 81 kg of particulates & CO2 captured; and 3.840 kW produced by solar panels.

The level on top of the heliport was designed to capture stormwater and features low maintenance plants with low water requirements brought in from providers less than 100 miles from Mexico City. The designers created two middle spaces between the top and the ground rooftop levels upon which endemic grasses were planted. And three sections on the main rooftop level include two leisure gardens and a 307 sq. ft. urban agricultural garden with an 8-inch-deep rich soil where organic lettuce, coriander, broccoli, tomatoes, Swiss chard, spinach, cabbage, and chiles are grown.
