Dejope Residence Hall, one of the Division of the University of Wisconsin (UW) Housing’s newest residence halls, opened in August 2012 in the lakeshore neighborhood near Lake Mendota and next to the UW Gymnasium-Natatorium. Dejope is the name that the Ho-Chunk and other American Indians have called the Madison area for thousands of years, meaning “Four Lakes” in the Ho-Chunk language.

Situated in the vicinity to several effigy mounds, the 318,000 sq ft, $47.6 million Dejope (formerly Lakeshore) Residence Hall at UW provides housing for 408 freshman and sophomores in a modified traditional resident hall arrangement. Its many unique features include a greenroof located on the two story dining area of the building. Installed on June 6, 2012, it employs a pre-vegetated Sedum mat system from Moerings Sempergreen.
