Read the “New Southern District Police Station Opens” News Release of December 11, 2003 from the Anne Arundel County, Maryland Citizens Information Center.

Construction on the building was started in May 2002, plantings were finished in October 2003, and the opening of the new Southern District Police Station was held on December 10, 2003. In addition to the living roof the building features a helipad and a community meeting room. According to the Anne Arundel County, Maryland Citizens Information Center, News Release of December 11, 2003 (see link below), the project is the first facility in a series of Capital Improvement Projects to support a green roof.

The project also represents the County’s on-going implementation of innovative stormwater management in the form of bio-retention facilities. It is expected that the greenroof will help reduce the impact of stormwater on the South River and ultimately, the Chesapeake Bay.
