Located at the George R. Brown School of Engineering, the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen has become the center of activity for undergraduate engineers at Rice University. Students from all eight engineering departments work on design projects for credit as well as extracurricular activities in the OEDK. The National Instruments Design, Prototype and Deploy lab, a large, common work area, provides a space for interdisciplinary teams to form when students with complimentary skills collaborate to solve problems.

The engineering facility includes a classroom, student lounge, a wet lab and conference rooms, and one with video-conferencing for projects that involve mentors or teams that are not at Rice. The OEDK is topped with a green roof and is expected to be LEED certified.

The Rice University Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen has a 6,992 sf greenroof with 10,000 sf of waterproofing installed on October 15, 2008.
