The Greensboro Children’s Museum’s Edible Schoolyard will be visited by people from all around the U.S. It will serve as a national model for other museums and children’s institutions. The Edible Schoolyard will educate children, families, & teachers about the benefits of growing your own food and encourage healthy eating habits and about being sustainable. The shed will benefit from the cooling effect of the greenroof as well as educate and display the benefits of living roofs to the public. It was installed on April 22, Earth Day 2010. There is a small LiveRoof display on the ground that you can touch & feel and it explains the benefits of living roofs. What a great oppportunity to educate & spread the word about vegetated roofs and walls! It is the first vegetated roof in Greensboro, NC.

Earth to Sky Roofing & Allied Roofing donated the installation labor and Carlise Roof Gardens donated the materials & vegetated mat. The aluminum edging was adheared to the TPO roof every 4 feet to hold the materials on the 4/12 pitch slope. This summer has been very hot & humid in North Carolina and the sedum plants have required more watering than expected. We will be installing irrigation for next summer!
