Public tours of the new Davenport Police station will be available in the summer of 2007; call River Action at 563.322.2969. Read the May 3, 2007 Quad-Cities Online article “Davenport’s $20M station takes lead in ‘green’ building” by Ruth Longoria here.

The new $20.3 million Davenport Police station is being constructed with several environmentally-friendly amenities, including three greenroofs areas – one area off of a break room will be a rooftop garden where the department’s 200 employees can use the space.

The project currently has enough points for a Silver LEED rating, but Davenport Police Lt. Mike Venema is hoping for Gold certification, which won’t be known until its occupancy scheduled for August, 2007.

According to Quad-Cities Online, see below, “The police department received a $65,000 grant from River Action’s Retain the Rain program and a $255,000 rebate from MidAmerican Energy for building an environmentally friendly structure.

“The new 97,000-square-foot police station is a “step up” from the current 27,000-square-foot station, Lt. Venema said. It will be funded through the sale of bonds. Kathy Wine, executive director of River Action, said it’s the first green-roof building in the Quad-Cities.”
