Baptist Eastpoint is a new outpatient services, surgery center and urgent care facility. The $63 million building opened Jan. 19, 2009, featuring four surgical suites fitted for a variety of same-day procedures. Baptist Hospital East’s “green” practices – from grass growing on a roof to an active employee recycling program – earned the hospital a finalist slot in the large corporation division of the first-ever Acorn Awards, presented in March, 2009, by The Green Building.

This green roof was designed as part of a new addition to the hospital’s cancer center to manage stormwater run off and to be viewable by hospital patients. Greenrise Technologies of Murfreesboro, TN was contracted to install the rooftop soil blends using their Express Blower pneumatic blowing equipment. The Express Blower blows in the product, eliminating unnecessary equipment such as cranes, manlifts, wheelbarrows, and associated labor to install the green roof’s organic products.

Completed in August, 2009, the project employed a 6,000 sq. ft. Garland Green Shield Build Up System, 4-inch Extensive Growing Medium blown in by Express Blower pneumatic blower truck, and a Sempergreen Pre-Vegetative Sedum Mat.
