Sika Sarnafil Announces Contractor Project of the Year Winners for 2019

Top 15 Commercial Roofing Projects of 2019 Announced

Canton, MA. – (March 10, 2020) – Winners of the annual Contractor Project of the Year competition were announced by Sika Sarnafil, the worldwide market leader in PVC roofing and waterproofing membranes, at the International Roofing Expo (IRE) Awards Dinner in Dallas, Texas.

Winners were recognized for outstanding workmanship in five categories: Low Slope – New Construction, Low Slope – Re-Roofing, Steep Slope, Sustainability, and Waterproofing for projects completed using a Sika PVC membrane for roofing or waterproofing applications.

Taking advantage of this year’s IRE location, Sika Sarnafil held our awards dinner at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which also boasts a Sarnafil roof. Sika Sarnafil took the stage to recognize the leading roofing projects of the year and congratulate our winning contractors on a job well done.

Low Slope – New Construction Category Winners

F.D. Thomas Inc. of Sacramento, CA took home first place in the Low Slope – New Construction category for installing a spectacular Sarnafil roof on the 18,064-seat Chase Arena & Warriors Mixed-Use Office & Retail project in downtown San Francisco. ADCO Roofing & Waterproofing of North Hollywood, CA received a runner-up medal for their outstanding work on St. Andrew’s Second Home in Los Angeles, creating 60 single-story oval shaped studies for a London-based creative business. Rounding out the Low Slope Re-Roofing category was Chris Andersen Roofing & Erecting Co. Inc. of East Rutherford, NJ for their successful installation on the barrel roof section of the American Dream Core and Waterpark in Hopelawn, NJ, now the nation’s largest indoor waterpark.

Low Slope – Re-Roofing Category Winners

In the Low Slope – Re-Roofing category, this year’s first-place award went to Utah Tile and Roofing, Inc. of Salt Lake City, UT for their hard work on the Pepper River Data Processing install, a project which faced a myriad of challenges due to the two failing layers of TPO roofing previously installed on the building. The second-place finish went to Douglass Colony Group, Inc. of Commerce City, CO for the Union Pacific Railroad Moffat Tunnel project, another difficult install due to its mountainous location. In third-place was Red Pointe Roofing of Orange, CA for their work on UC-Irvine Schools of Law and Education, a project which called for various noise and dust precautions for the studious occupants and still yielded a beautiful end-result.

Steep Slope Category Winners

The first-place Steep Slope category win went to Coatings Application & Waterproofing Co. of St. Louis, MO for their work on the Ritz Carlton in Miami, FL. The completed Sarnafil Décor System with a Patina Green color membrane gives a simulated metal roof appearance that rivals even Miami Beach views. Meanwhile, Jeff Eubanks Roofing Co., Inc. of Fort Worth, TX followed in close second with the Dickies Arena project, featuring a 123,000 square foot dome and custom color logo (among many other facets) and completed in high Texas temperatures. Warren Roofing & Insulation Co. of Walton Hills, OH was the third-place win, awarded for the Sarnafil Décor System design masterpiece that is Ursuline Sisters – Merici Crossings in Pepper Pike, OH.

Sustainability Category Winners

An excellent representation of sustainable design, Nations Roof of Kennesaw, GA earned first-place for the Resurgens Plaza project, transforming the 14th floor low-roof area of an iconic Atlanta, GA office tower into an extraordinary green roof and amenity deck. Anthony Roofing Tecta America of Aurora, IL followed in second-place for their work on the Com Ed South Headquarters, recycling the existing Sarnafil PVC membrane in the process of their install. In third-place was Harvard University’s, The Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship, a beautiful green roof garden project completed by Recover Green Roofs and W.S. Aiken in Cambridge, MA.

Waterproofing Category Winners

In the Waterproofing Category, CFE, Inc. of Elmira, NY took the lead thanks to their terrific work on the University of Virginia’s Hospital Expansion, completing waterproofing for areas of green roofing, solar systems, and a heliport in Charlottesville, VA. McEnany Roofing of Temple Terrace, FL followed in second-place with the KPMG Lakehouse Project, a breathtaking flagship facility in Orlando, FL with two large paver decks for outdoor events. Rounding out the top three for this group was Central States Roofing of Ames, IA for their work with Iowa State University (also located in Ames, IA), installing a vegetative green roof on the Student Innovation Center and achieving LEED Gold Certification.

The high caliber of projects from around the United States submitted to this year’s competition made the selection process extremely challenging. All participants should be proud of their hard work this year and their impressive accomplishments.
