Marsh Hall is a residential hall project at Salem State University that is located adjacent to a sensitive tidal salt marsh. Stormwater from the project is sent to a large, linear bio-swale with native grasses to be filtered and given the chance to percolate back into the ground. The bioswale is lined with stone-filled gabions and extends through a new quadrangle giving an architectural expression to a natural process and educating residents to the process of treating stormwater.

Completed in March 3010, a 5,750 square foot green roof extends over the lower level dining hall, lending a green view to the rooms above.

The Marsh Hall project at Salem State University received a design award from the Boston Society of Architects at their annual awards dinner on January 26, 2012.
