The clients moved into a new home and wanted to improve their landscape. They were committed to being more environmentally responsible and decided a green roof on their garage would add both aesthetic and environmental benefits to their home. Their house had large windows in the rear that overlooked a small garden and the garage roof. They wanted to create more continuity between the garden and roof that would provide a visual buffer to the back alley.

Ecogardens installed a dual-media system on the garage roof that also incorporated capillary drip line irrigation. The project was rather straightforward. The garage roof was only 1 story tall and formed a perfect square. Since the clients wanted an ecological roof that contributed to the health of the land and wildlife, we planted a diverse roof with several native species and a total of 29 plant varieties. The complete plant list is pasted below.

Antennaria dioica, Cerastium tomentosum, Campanula poscharskyana, Potentilla neumanniana, Asclepia tuberosa, Baptisia australis, Parthenium integrifolium, Penstemon digitalis 'Husker Red', Rudbeckia hirta, Solidago rugosa 'Fireworks', Sedum album, Sedum kamschaticum, Sedum spurium 'Fuldaglut', Sedum spurium 'John Creech', Phlox subulata 'Emerald Pink', Phlox subulata 'Emerald Blue', Aster novae-angliae, Bouteloua curtipendula, Calamagrostis canadensis, Solidago speciosa, Seslara autumnalis, Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue', Sporobolus heterolepis, Allium schoenoprasum 'Forescate', Allium cernuum, Campanula carpatica 'Blue Chips', Dianthus deltoides 'Brilliant', Liatris spicata, Lobelia cardinalis.
