| The new building at the University System of Maryland's Shady Grove campus in Rockville - the Camille Kendall Academic Center - is an energy-efficient building with two greenroofs. Opened in August 2007, the 192,000-square-foot building is 29 percent more energy efficient than minimum design standards developed by the heating and cooling industry. Opened in August 2007, the building earned Gold certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)Building rating system, incorporating orientation, window design, insulation, and plants on the roof to help save energy. |
