|Harford County Public Schools is a proud owner of a living green roof on its new concessions building located in the stadium of Joppatowne High School. The idea was to build a small prototype building using modern sustainable products so that we could get a better feel for how they may benefit us in new school construction. We engaged the USGBC and local green vendors for the insight on how to make this idea come to life.|
Completed on April 4, 2012, the entire project was funded by donations of time, tools, and materials from over 25 private businesses. The structure was built with ICF (insulated structural foam) walls, polished concrete countertops, pervious concrete patios, LED lighting, and a living green roof with a 2:12 slope.
|Students from the schools Environmental Science class were on hand Wednesday when schools were closed to help with the green roof installation and see how the concepts they are learning in class are being incorporated into the structure.|
