|The client in this project, COMMON GROUND COMMUNITY, is an international leader in the development of solutions for the formerly homeless, focusing on affordable housing, outreach and prevention. ?The Brook? is Common Ground?s first construction project in the Bronx, and is now playing a key role in revitalizing the entire surrounding community.|
When asked to design the project?s green roof, the greatest challenge was to contribute to Common Ground?s mission in a meaningful way. In that effort, a low-lying mat design was developed comprising of eight species of small sedums which thrive and spread to fill, forming an ever-evolving, colorful living carpet in a ?sky is the limit? atmosphere.
|Completed in August 2009, the green roof, which spans over 4,000 square feet, has been given LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification, and was featured in the March 2011 issue of DWELL.|
