This project was requested by the property developer of a small lot in East Vancouver. Two homes were built on the property along with a double garage so there wasn’t a lot of green space out back. The master bedroom and second bedroom of the one unit looked directly down onto the garage roof. The developers thought that the home would have more appeal to a potential buyer if there was a nicer view.

This roof was just off an alley and only one story high so it was not difficult as far as hoisting materials. We did do it in the middle of December and had to deal with frost first thing in the morning which made it slightly more dangerous as far as footing went. We used a Zinco system for the base layers and the light weight soil and planted about 1500 sedum plugs. We used 9 different types of sedums and made sure to plant 2 types together in all spaces. The idea was to have different things happening in different areas of the roof through the seasons.
