“The first high-rise office tower to be built in downtown Chicago in the post-9/11 era, Hyatt Center incorporates state-of-the-art security and armoring systems while remaining open and accessible. Located at the northeast corner of South Wacker Drive and West Monroe Street, the 49-story, 1,765,000-square foot (163,969 m2) structure is an unusual combination of build-to-suit and speculative office space. It also is the first Chicago building for the internationally known design firm Pei Cobb Freed & Partners.
“Hyatt Center’s curved form increases efficiency. An interior bamboo forest, green roof, highly efficient glass, and state-of-the-art mechanical systems demonstrate the developer’s commitment to sustainable design, and the building was the first commercial high rise to meet the city’s new energy code,” (ULI).
The LEED Platinum Hyatt Center greenroof is located above the 6th Floor.
In 2010, an irrigation system was installed on the greenroof by Halloran & Yauch, Inc. The Hyatt Center was one of the 2012 winners of “The Outstanding Building of the Year” (TOBY) Awards for buildings over one million square feet.
