The new facility features a green roof system, car elevator, extensive high end finishes and Silver LEED Certification. BIM was employed throughout the coordination process including during the construction phase to identify and correct any interstitial space conflicts.
The green roof was installed in November, 2009 utilizing Moerings USA LLC/Sempergreen vegetated mats. The Mercedes Benz of Chicago’s new eco-friendly dealership opened in February, 2011 and in addition to the above features, it also boasts low-flow water features and regional building materials, all on an energy-efficient pre-developed site.
“Mercedes? commitment to green initiatives extends far beyond this dealership. The Chicago location is their second LEED-certified facility nationwide and the company?s earth-friendly initiatives also include a fleet of low-emission luxury vehicles, like the BlueTEC Clean Diesel ML350 and GL350 SUVs and crossover R350. In 2009 two new hybrid models also launched (the S400 and ML450) while plans are in the works for zeroemission fuel-cell vehicles to be launched within the next three years. ?It?s going to be step-by-step going forward,? says Sullivan of Mercedes? commitment to clean-air technology. ?[Mercedes is] really ahead of the curve,?
