Living Roofs, Inc. installed an extensive green roof on Kerr Scott Hall as part of an Appalachian State University wide desire to reduce energy costs and demonstrate the benefits of green roofs to the campus community.

The green roof is a project of the Appalachian Physical Plant in conjunction with Pepco Energy Services, designed specifically to conserve energy, as well as show students the benefits of vegetative roofs on campus.

A lightweight ? 18 lbs/sqft ? pre-vegetated system was selected due to the load constraints of the existing structure. This is the first green roof on Appalachian State Campus and was completed in September 2010.

A second green roof at ASU was installed on the Reich College of Education by Living Roofs, Inc. in May, 2011 – see that profile in The Greenroof & Greenwall Projects Database.
