| Who We Are: Greener by Design designs, blueprints, installs, and cares for complex intensive residential greenroof gardens as well as simple low maintenance extensive greenroofs on minimum access rooftops characteristic of commercial installations. Greener by Design, a subsidiary of Mornhurst Gardens Co., has been designing, installing, and caring for greenroofs since 1998. What Is A Greenroof?: Greenroof is as a tremendous opportunity to restore disturbances to the ecosystem created by cities and urban sprawl, as well as expanding creative opportunities for landscape designers. A greenroof is a living blanket that saves energy on heating and cooling, doubles or triples this life of the roof membrane, reduces storm water runoff, as well as absorbing pollutants and carbon dioxide while releasing oxygen. As such it represents one of the few sustainable buildings technologies that pays for itself and utilizes a nature proven planet cleaner: flora. Greenroofs have been utilized in Europe for more than forty years now and qualify for LEED credits in the United States. Quality & Cost: We produce all our own soil mixes and have entered into partnership with growers to produce the highest quality product at competitive prices. We will install anywhere regionally, and provide maintenance services and/or maintenance training. Where We Are Going: Currently Greener by Design is researching utilizing native plants in greenroofs in an effort to restore disturbances to the ecosystem caused by the introduction of non- native plants. We are also exploring simple means of recycling grey water, and run off, for utilization in irrigation of intensive systems. |
