Moerings Sempergreen installs green roof at Gaithersburg High School
Gaithersburg, MD. - (October 31, 2013) - Hess Construction + Engineering Services, a leading builder of educational facilities in the Mid-Atlantic, was selected by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) to manage construction of the Gaithersburg High School modernization project, one of the largest High schools in the state of Maryland.
The $93 million modernization project includes a phased renovation, addition, and replacement building resulting in a 420,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. The existing school will remain in operation during the construction period. Construction will proceed in phases to ensure the safety and comfort of the students, faculty and staff.
The project will meet Silver LEED certification, in conformance with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Energy saving features can be found throughout the design and include a 127,000 square feet extensive green roof, a geothermal well HVAC system, enhanced commissioning, and occupancy sensor control lighting.
