Hanover Architectural Products Headquarters
Hanover, PA, USA

6,164 sq. ft Greenroof

HanoverArchitecturalProductsHQ1

Project Description & Details

Perched atop Hanover® Architectural Product’s one-story warehouse, the company’s green roof provides clients, potential partners, employees, and their families with a vibrant outdoor space. Visitors access the retrofit project from the adjacent corporate headquarters building, and can view the outdoor space while working through conference room and office windows.

Roofmeadow designed the showcase green roof for the industry leader in architectural pavers using these assemblies: Type III (4-8” of media), and Types II (6-8” of media; planters with 8” of media; and tree pits with 26” of media). The main design objective was to integrate the client’s off the shelf concrete architectural products into the roofscape in unsuspecting ways. The carefully-selected plant palette amplifies visitors’ sensory experience: wind blowing through ornamental grasses creates a calming auditory backdrop; trees provide a cool microclimate for those relaxing on the Shade Grove’s seatwalls; scents of Clethra and Magnolia whiff through the space; succulent groundcovers provide bursts of color throughout the seasons.

Greenroof Project of the Week for September 16, 2013: Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (LAMOTH)

Greenroofs.com Project of the Week: 9/16/13

Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (LAMOTH)
Los Angeles, CA, USA

12,700 sf. Greenroof

LAMOTH1

Project Description & Details

Integrated into the landscape of Pan Pacific Park now in its 4th location, the new award-winning LEED Gold certified Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust is the oldest Holocaust museum in the United States and has a two-fold mission that has remained constant since its inception in 1961: commemoration and education. The client wanted an above ground iconic museum building and the architect wanted to maintain open space by submersion.

Designed collaboratively by Lisa Lee Benjamin of Evo Catalyst and Karla Dakin of K. Dakin Design, the roof landscape is a visionary response to the complex contemporary architecture of Belzberg Architects. Roofmeadow included Types I (12″ deep growing media), II (4″), and III (6″) assemblies and states, “With dramatic contours and steep grades (45 degree pitches), this accessible green roof supports grasses, perennials, succulents and fosters the sense that the entire building visually dissolves into the surrounding landscape.”

Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitor Center

Project Description & Details

In the most significant garden renewal effort since the Garden’s founding 100 years ago, Brooklyn Botanic Garden is currently engaged in a dramatic and ambitious effort for the future. Seamlessly melding architecture and landscape, the new Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitor Center is a model of energy-efficient design, including earth-sheltered construction, a geoexchange system for heating and cooling, fritted-glass walls, and a living roof comprised of over 10,000 plants.

Designed by Weiss/Manfredi, the Visitor Center aspires to LEED Gold certification. The slope of the roof, pitched from 4 to 27 degrees, is a prominent visual element of the site; the green roof profile and slope stabilization system was designed by Roofmeadow. The semi-intensive green roof is planted with a richly textured variety of grasses, flowering perennials and bulbs. New York Green Roofs provided the installation as well as ongoing maintenance services. The green roof is expected to harvest almost 200,000 gallons of water each year.

We thank Roofmeadow for exhibiting at The Expo Pavilion in the Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Virtual Summit 2013!
