Watch the Greenroofs & Walls of the World Virtual Summit 2015 Video: “Urban and Social Needs of Green” by Marc Grañén

September 15, 2016 at 12:25 pm

If you want to see how one landscape designer celebrates life by having school children experience science and sustainability through education with green, living plants, then you can’t miss “Urban and Social Needs of Green” by Marc Grañén from our Greenroofs & Walls of the World Virtual Summit 2015 ~ Connecting the Planet with Living Architecture: People, Projects & Design above or on our VS2015 Virtual Summit 2015 playlist on our GreenroofsTV channel on YouTube.

It’s been over a year since we concluded our third Greenroofs & Walls of the World Virtual Summit, and as promised, we are now releasing the 23 videos from our 30+ international speakers to the general public.

Today we are spotlighting the individual “Urban and Social Needs of Green” short Inspiration Nook Video by the soft-spoken Catalan, Marc Grañén, a landscape artist and creator of PhytoKinetic, who has been constructing and developing greenroofs – even on vehicles – and greenwalls within northeastern Spain for several years.  During the Virtual Summit 2013 he graced us with his beautiful, almost poetic, video “Phyto Kinetic: Gardens in Movement,” which you can see here.

As you may know already, even if you are not presenting at the Virtual Summit, as an attendee you can submit your 3 minute (non-overtly commercial) video of research, ideas, projects, poster boards, thought leadership, etc., which are then followed by your own live Discussion Chat.

This series is focused around sparking conversation, ideas, dialogue and connections around a specific greenroof/wall-related topic – a mosaic of bright ideas for a greener world.

Marc says “Yes, we have a serious problem, as we haven’t understood what sustainability means.  Fortunately, there are more and more of us, who day by day, are working hard to solve this.  The path is long and hard, but full of shades.  As a landscape artist I always try to capture Nature at what it does best: exist.  And this happens because Nature itself is sustainable, otherwise it would have never existed.”

Bescanó, Spain. Marc Grañén says, “My artistic point of view of life and my intense love of natural landscapes make the perfect combination for what has become my daily occupation. I am a landscape artist. Nature is my inspiration and my family, my best teacher. We live in Bescanó, our small hometown in the northeast of Spain.

I’ve created artworks in China, Spain and Russia, and been a speaker in several conferences in the UK, Spain, the Netherlands, China, France… with interviews in media of all continents. I created PhytoKinetic, the first and unique worldwide patented system to make greenroofs on top of vehicles. I have created many private greenroof and greenwall projects, and more than a dozen educative edible greenwalls in Barcelona public schools.”

In celebration of honoring Earth Day 2015 and our planet’s ecology through healthy, regenerative design, we are highlighting each of the 23 awesome videos from our 30+ spectacular speakers from Greenroofs.com‘s Greenroofs & Walls of the World Virtual Summit 2015 ~ Connecting the Planet with Living Architecture: People, Projects & Design, running through May 31st.

VS2015-OnDemand-Website

Our hope is that by familiarizing you more with each presentation and its particular benefits, you will be enticed to join us during our wonderfully easy-to-navigate online Virtual Summit!  And, along with the speakers’ input, I will identify 5 Key Learning Objectives or “takeaway” bullet points that each video presentation provides to participants.

VS2015-MarcGranenwithHisKids

Today we are spotlighting the individual “Urban and Social Needs of Green” Inspiration Nook Video by the thoughtful Catalan, Marc Grañén, a Spanish landscape artist who has been constructing and developing greenroofs – even on vehicles – and greenwalls within northeastern Spain for several years.  He has a gift for merging landscape art within the human environment.  By the way, look for an upcoming article from him about his work with schools.

At the Virtual Summit 2013 he graced us with his beautiful, almost poetic, video “Phyto Kinetic: Gardens in Movement,” which you can see here – it’s actually one of my top all time Virtual Summit favorites.

VS2015-MarcGranen1We finally met Marc later that year in Nantes, France at the World Green Roof Congress 2013.  He is the real deal – a simply beautiful person with an open, caring heart with a philosophy to match.

Marc wanted to participate again this time around, but didn’t have the time to create a traditional video, so he opted for a short Inspiration Nook video.  As you may know already, even if you are not presenting at the Virtual Summit, as an attendee you can submit your 3 minute (non-overtly commercial) video of research, ideas, projects, poster boards, thought leadership, etc., which were followed by your own live Discussion Chat.

This series is focused around sparking conversation, ideas, dialogue and connections around a specific greenroof/wall-related topic – a mosaic of bright ideas for a greener world.

VS2015-Marc-Granen-4

As usual, Marc created a unique and endearing video – this time with only with awesome photos and music!

He says “Yes, we have a serious problem, as we haven’t understood what sustainability means.  Fortunately, there are more and more of us, who day by day, are working hard to solve this.  The path is long and hard, but full of shades.  As a landscape artist I always try to capture Nature at what it does best: exist.  And this happens because Nature itself is sustainable, otherwise it would have never existed.”

VS2015-MarcGranen-2

His short upbeat Inspiration Nook video is about edible greenwalls at schools within the Barcelona area – and the kids, whom he says have become our best hope in a close future.  What a fun way to get across his idea and philosophy!

You will benefit from these 5 Key Learning Objectives as Marc Grañén shares visually on the subject:

1) His influences and early projects;

2) Construction through the various stages of setting up a greenwall system on multiple schools;

3) Symbiotic master classes where he teaches and informs young through teenage school children “It’s a kind of magic…to feel the soil under your nails…”;

4) Discovering urban biodiversity: Experience the joy of discovery on the children’s faces when they touch, plant the different herbs, succulents, and vegetables plus find animals like frogs, earthworms, and birds;

5) Celebrating life: He wants children to experience science and sustainability through education with green, living plants.

Watch the “Phyto Kinetic: Gardens in Movement” by Marc Grañén from Our Virtual Summit 2013

December 11, 2014 at 11:03 am

In anticipation of Greenroofs.com’s spectacular 2015 Virtual Summit on April 6 through May 31 – and in order to familiarize you with the event – we are now making the Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Virtual Summit 2013 videos publicly available on our GreenroofsTV channel on YouTube to all free of charge.

Today we have the pleasure to air the Individual Video “Phyto Kinetic: Gardens in Movement” by Marc Grañén.  He is actually our newest contributing editor here at Greenroofs.com, and I am in the middle of translating his first column – look for it very soon!  We will present it in both English and Spanish, the first time we publish an article in two languages.

PhytoKinteticBus

Marc says, “I have a real need to observe all that involves me, to capture the essence of each small part of a landscape, in order to understand the natural balance of Nature, that Nature we had already pushed out from our lives. So I created Phyto Kinetic, to gain those lost green spaces in where there’s only concrete and asphalt; a world trademark to “engarden” the roofs of public transport. Finally, we have started to have green roofs and vegetal walls; now we have also gardens in movement.” Marc’s presentation will be in English.
