Today we have the pleasure to air the Keynote Video “12 Reasons to Invest in Green Roofs” by Steven Peck, GRP, Honorary ASLA, founding member of the World Green Infrastructure Network, and founder and president of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, the North American Green Roof Industry Association.

Steven Peck has been working to develop the green roof and wall industry for over 15 years. His presentation will focus on the major reasons why government policy makers (and building owners) should invest in supporting the development of green roofs and green wall technology on new and existing buildings in their communities.

Steven’s keynote will cover recent scientific literature on green roof and wall performance as well as studies on human health and well being.

“Toronto, Canada. Steven W. Peck is the Founder and President of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, the North American trade association for the green roof and wall industry. He is also the co-founder of the Green Infrastructure Foundation, a charitable foundation dedicated to promoting living green infrastructure and co-founder of the World Green Infrastructure Network. For well over a decade, Steven has conducted public policy research on a variety of environment and economy issues with a focus on environmental technology transfer and public policy. He is a founding member of the World Green Infrastructure Network (WGIN) that encourages the formation of green roof industry associations throughout the world, and the Green Infrastructure Foundation Ontario Coalition. In 2006, Steven won the Canadian Urban Institute Urban Leadership Award for his efforts to promote ‘City Livability.’

Steven enjoys a honors degree in economics and political science from McGill University. He is the publisher of the Living Architecture Monitor, a quarterly magazine that is focused on developments in the green roof and wall industry. He has authored or co-authored numerous reports and written extensively on the topic of green roof design, policy and research and has spoken on the subject at conferences throughout North America and internationally. He is an honorary member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), and participated on the committee which developed the first and only form of accreditation for those working in the green roof industry, the Green Roof Professional (GRP) designation.

Steven Peck recently published a new book, The Rise of Living Architecture (Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, October 2012), which contains interviews with over 50 leaders in the field of green roofs and walls from across North America. Steven is also the Moderator for the “Green Wall Maintenance – Needs, Opportunities and Best Practices” Panel with Melissa Daniels, Christopher Lyon, and James Sable.“ ~ VS2013

Our second foray in the world of virtual conferences, the Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Virtual Summit 2013: Connecting the Planet + Living Architecture, was very successful at bringing together people from around the world to learn, discuss, and network in our field of living architecture.
