on January 9, 2015 at 2:07 pm under

In anticipation of Greenroofs.com’s spectacular 2015 Virtual Summit on April 6 through May 31 – and in order to familiarize you with the event – we are now making the Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Virtual Summit 2013 videos publicly available on our GreenroofsTV channel on YouTube to all free of charge.

Today we have the pleasure to air the Individual Video “Vegetation Development on Extensive Green Roofs Over Time” by Christine Thuring, PhD candidate in Landscape Ecology (University of Sheffield) and Greenroofs.com contributing editor.  Aramis and I have known the lovely Christine for over 10 years and we are proud of her many accomplishments and continuing education.  As first our Student Editor and now Research Editor, she has provided much insight and information sharing to a wide range of our international audience – as well as collaborated with many Exclusive Features and her own Christine’s Ramblings.

Christine has been a great supporter of ours, including leading the “Biodiversity and Greenroofs” Panel Session presentation with Dusty Gedge, Nathalie Baumann, and Gary Grant our inaugural 2011 Virtual Summit which you can see here if you haven’t already done so.

VS2013-ChristineThuring-Research

In her current video presentation, Christine Thuring shares her ongoing research. Like vegetation anywhere, green roof vegetation is subject to ecological dynamics and processes. Little work has explored the long-term dynamics of green roof vegetation, however, with more attention on initial establishment and individual species.

This research evaluates how vegetation and soils on some of the oldest extensive green roofs (EGR) in southwest Germany have developed since their installation over 20 years ago.
