Project Description & Details

Treehouse Masters on Animal Planet is a show where host Pete Nelson designs treehouses for those with a passion to reconnect with nature. When they decided that a living wall would be a great addition for an upcoming adventure-themed jungle treehouse for the Temple Residence located in the Poconos, they researched living wall companies and selected Plant Connection and their G-O2 system. The main purpose of the living wall was to add design, beauty, and uniqueness to the house.

The living wall designer, Sabrina Buttitta of Plant Connection, hand-selected the plant palette to not only be bold with texture, but also still harmonize with its setting. Drawing on inspiration from the surrounding landscape and the adventure/jungle theme, the shape of a gnarly tree was sculpted out. The trunk/branches are Coral Bells, the “canopy” is Autumn Fern with some Japanese Forest Grass, and Ivy was planted along the bottom to represent the undulating landscape, with a horizon line of Spurge to symbolize the creek below. The access was definitely unique as materials were brought across a ravine and Plant Connection used a pump jack, basically a narrow platform, that had to be pumped up and down on stations using their feet to move along the wall. The producers wanted Pete to be hands-on and was included in all aspects of the installation, from hanging the mounting brackets to hanging the actual panels and installing the irrigation.
