Vote for the Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm for “Vertigo Farming”!

on November 4, 2011 at 2:30 pm under

Ben Flanner, co-founder and head farmer of the Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm in New York, recently  wrote Greenroofs.com asking for our vote in this year’s BBC WORLD CHALLENGE for their “Vertigo Farming” entry – or even sky gardening, right?  It’s certainly up our alley:

“Two years ago, I started the Brooklyn Grange, a rooftop farm with a great group.  We intensively grow vegetables on a 1-acre soil-covered rooftop, and sell them to local restaurants and farmer’s markets around New York.  We also have bees, chickens, kids, and we launched an educational non-profit this year.  It’s a busy place.

Recently, the farm was chosen as one of twelve finalists in the BBC World Challenge, a competition that rewards folks who are turning niche sustainability concepts into business models.  It’s an impressive group of 12 finalists who were selected for the challenge, and we are the only rep from the US, so we are very proud to be in the runnings.  After the votes are tallied, the top 3 all receive cash prizes, which would be really helpful as we’re preparing to start our 2nd location next spring.” ~ Ben Flanner

The Grand Prize is $20,000 and voting ends on November 11th – click here to vote. Ben also invites everyone to send him a note or call at ben.flanner@gmail.com and 608-215-0218, or come visit the farm.  Learn more about the Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm at their website.

Please support  the Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm with your vote!  Only one per person makes it a snap – Aramis and I did it and Ben and all at the  Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm will certainly appreciate your help.

Happy Farming in the Sky,

~ Linda V.
